Hydrovac and vacuum excavation to safely expose underground utilities. A safer way to dig near live gas, water, electrical, and telecoms assets on infrastructure sites.
Utility-Safe Excavation, Planned Around Your Site.
When underground utilities are in play, NDD is one of the safest ways to dig. Grana Works uses hydrovac and vacuum excavation technology to safely expose gas, water, electrical, and telecoms assets to help avoid ground disturbance and service damage.
We plan NDD work around Dial Before You Dig plans and work with asset owners, network operators, and project managers so utilities are safely located and exposed before traditional plant moves in.
Our NDD Services Include
Hydrovac (vacuum excavation) for gas, water, electrical and telecoms services
Potholing and service verification
Utility mapping and conflict identification
Slot trenching in confined or sensitive areas
Pre-excavation scanning and ground penetrating radar coordination
Findings documented for the project record
Urgent NDD enquiries during business hours, via WhatsApp
Work planned for road reserves, footpaths and traffic environments, with control arranged with you
Why NDD Matters on Your Site
Underground utility strikes cause project shutdowns, liability exposure, and in the worst cases — fatalities. Dial Before You Dig plans show registered assets, but unregistered services exist on virtually every urban site in NSW. NDD physically verifies what's in the ground before you dig.
Every project that involves any excavation within 300mm of a known utility should include NDD. The aim is to document thoroughly and hand back to your excavation team with clear service positions marked and recorded.
What's the difference between hydrovac and traditional excavation? +
Traditional excavation uses mechanical plant (buckets, breakers) that can sever utilities without warning. Hydrovac uses high-pressure water to break up soil and a vacuum to extract it — exposing utilities safely without mechanical contact. It is the preferred method for excavation near live services.
Do you coordinate with Dial Before You Dig? +
Yes. We work from DBYD plans on NDD projects. The plans are cross-referenced with actual ground conditions, and any discrepancies are documented for the project record.
Can you work in live traffic environments? +
Where works sit in road reserves, traffic-affected areas or footpath environments, traffic or pedestrian control needs to be planned with the site owner. Tell us about the location and we will confirm how it can be arranged.
How do I book urgent utility work? +
For urgent utility work, message us on WhatsApp or call 0450 870 482 during business hours (Mon–Fri 6am–6pm) with the site address and what has happened, and we will confirm availability. If anyone is at risk, call 000 first.
When should I use NDD instead of a mechanical excavator? +
Use NDD when working near known or suspected utilities, in congested urban corridors, for potholing and service verification, or wherever a strike would create unacceptable safety or programme risk. Mechanical plant is fine once services are positively located and cleared.
Do you provide potholing and service verification only, or full slot trenching? +
Both. We routinely deliver potholing for conflict checks as well as slot trenching in confined or sensitive areas. Scope is agreed per site with your project team.
How does NDD fit with Dial Before You Dig? +
NDD supports good Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) practice by physically verifying assets shown on plans and identifying unregistered services. We document findings for the project record so your excavation team can proceed with clear markings.
Which Sydney areas do you cover for non-destructive digging? +
We cover all of Greater Sydney and surrounding areas, including Western Sydney hubs such as Blacktown, Penrith, Parramatta, and Campbelltown. Tell us your suburb and we will confirm crew availability.
